Sultanate Period (1206 AD to 1526 AD)

  • Muhammed Ghori, the founder of Turk power in northern India, had no children. He brought with him a large number of slaves whom he had appointed as his officers.
  • On the sudden death of Muhammed Ghori in 1206 AD. Qutubuddin Aibak assumed power at the request of local citizens in Lahore.
  • Between 1206 and 1290 AD, Delhi was ruled by the Slave Dynasty or the Mamluk Dynasty.
  • Qutubuddin Aibak, Qutubi, Iltutamsh, Shamshi and Bulban established the Bulbani dynasty.
  • The historian Aziz Ahmed named these rulers the 'Early Turk Rulers' of Delhi.
